Chinese and Indian protected units have begun separating south of Pangong Tso as an initial move towards settling the nine-month military deadlock along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.

As a component of the cycle, Chinese soldiers will pull back from Finger 4 to east of Finger 8 on the Pangong north bank – they had come in 8 km west of Finger 8 which India says denotes the LAC. Indian soldiers will be positioned at Dhan Singh Thapa Post close to Finger 3. Until further notice, the stretch isolating them will be a no-watching zone.

Affirming the beginning of the cycle on the north and south banks of Pangong Tso, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh told the two Houses of Parliament Thursday that China and India have agreed under which "the two sides will stop their forward organizations in a staged, composed and confirmed way".
